Congratulations Angelbots for Outstanding work at the First Lego League Competition!

Loretto Academy 4th and 5th graders and Middle School students competed and placed at the First Lego League (FLL) Competition held at UTEP, Saturday, February 15, 2014.  Elementary School White Angelbots won 2nd place in the Champion’s Award.  They will head to Canada in June for International Competition.  Elementary School Purple Angelbots won 2nd place in the Judges award.  Elementary School Yellow Angelbots won 2nd place for Inspiration under the FLL Core Values Awards.  Middle School Team won 2nd place in Programming under Robot Awards.

“We are extremely proud of our Robotic students for placing at the First Lego League Competition,” said Sister Buffy Boesen SL, President of Loretto Academy.  “We hope to expand our Robotics program to continue to be competitive within the FLL and are excited to see how our White Angelbots team will do at the International Competition!”

Loretto Academy Elementary School has been participating in the FLL for 3 years and this is the first year for Loretto Academy Middle School.  Loretto Academy was also the only private or Catholic School from El Paso, TX present at the competition.  FLL helps students integrate science, technology, engineering and math skills to solve real life challenges.  Nature’s Fury was the theme for this year’s challenge. Each team selected a natural disaster to research and to create a possible solution for alerting communities.

The four teams for Loretto Academy incorporated the FLL core values in to their discussions throughout the year.  They then built and programmed robots to do various missions.  All findings were presented to the judges at the First Lego League Competition.

Great job to all of the Angelbots teams that competed!

A big congratulations goes out to the Varsity softball team for winning their first game against Clint High School last week with a whopping score of  12 to 9.
This year we have many new faces and they need to be praised for their efforts.  Most of the girls on the team are freshman and sophomores with  only 4 seniors out of a team of 15.  Our seniors and veteran sophomores are good examples for our new younger girls and are appreciated greatly.  Keep up the good work.
